Powered by a fuel-injected, turbocharged 2155 cm³ engine from the Peugeot 505 Turbo Phase 2, this Murena produces a roaring 180 HP and 245 Nm of torque – figures that, combined with the Murena’s featherlight construction, result in a driving experience that is simply unlike anything else. Finished in factory original Bleu Colombia, professionally restored in 2021, and with only 2 previous owners – one of whom kept it in a heated garage for 25 years – this is a truly rare piece of Matra history. The Turbo Engine Swap – Peugeot 505 Power in a Murena

The original Murena 2.2 engine was replaced with the turbocharged inline 4-cylinder from the Peugeot 505 Turbo Phase 2, displacing 2155 cm³ with a bore and stroke of 91.7 x 81.6 mm. The engine features a Garrett turbocharger, a Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection system, and a compression ratio of 7.5:1. Power output is 160 PS (180 HP / 118 kW) at 5200 rpm, with a maximum torque of 245 Nm (180 lb-ft) at 3000 rpm. Drive is sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission. The result is a Murena that accelerates with real urgency and sounds extraordinary doing it.

Exceptional History – 2 Owners, 25 Years Garage Stored

This Murena 2.2 Turbo has had just 2 previous owners in its entire life. From 1999 onwards, the car was kept in a heated garage, protecting it from the elements for over two decades before it arrived at Carjoy. It has been in Carjoy’s care for more than 20 years, during which time it has been maintained to a high standard using quality original parts. The odometer reads 226,000 km – a genuine and well-documented figure for a car of this age and character.

Full 2021 Restoration – Everything Done Properly

In 2021, this Matra Murena 2.2 Turbo underwent a comprehensive professional restoration. The car was repainted in its factory original color Bleu Colombia. The brake system was completely renewed, as was the cooling system, the steering components, the rear control arms, the windshield, and the battery. A new stainless steel Devil exhaust with dual tips was fitted, along with new alloy wheels and new tyres. The end result is a car that looks, drives, and presents as a properly restored classic – not a quick cosmetic refresh.

Exterior – Bleu Colombia

The factory original color Bleu Colombia suits this turbo Murena perfectly, giving it a bold and purposeful presence on the road. The 2021 repaint was carried out professionally as part of the full restoration, and the finish is clean and consistent. The new alloy wheels, dual-tip exhaust, and new tyres complete the exterior and give the car a look that matches its performance.

Interior and Three-Seat Layout

Inside, this Murena 2.2 Turbo features beige leather upholstery specially developed for Murena models, creating a comfortable and premium cabin environment. The iconic three-seat layout – one of the Murena’s most celebrated design features – is fully intact. The original interior can be reinstalled upon request. The trunk offers 290 litres of luggage capacity, making the Murena genuinely practical for longer drives.

Suspension, Brakes and Tyres

This Murena 2.2 Turbo is equipped with disc brakes on both front and rear axles, all renewed as part of the 2021 restoration. The front suspension uses an independent McPherson setup with torsion bar and anti-roll bar, while the rear features coil springs with an anti-roll bar. The car rides on 195/60 R14 tyres front and rear, providing confident grip and a well-controlled ride that matches the car’s performance potential.
