Terms & Conditions

Carjoy – Matra Specialist, Leerdam, The Netherlands

We want to be straightforward with you. These terms exist not to create distance between us and our customers, but to make sure everyone knows what to expect. We have been doing this since 1988 and honest communication has always been at the heart of how we work.

By using www.carjoy.nl or purchasing from us, you agree to the terms below.

Part 1 – Using Our Website

Our Content

Everything on this website — text, photos, product descriptions — belongs to Carjoy. You are welcome to browse, save pages for personal reference, and share links. What we ask is that you don’t copy or republish our content for commercial purposes without asking us first. We put a lot of work into what we publish, and we appreciate that being respected.

Accuracy

We do our best to keep product descriptions, prices and availability up to date. Classic car parts are a specialist world — stock changes, and occasionally something may be listed that turns out to be unavailable or differently specified than described. If that happens, we will always contact you before processing your order.

Links to Other Websites

We sometimes link to external websites that we find useful — such as Matra clubs, registries or reference material. We don’t control those sites and can’t be held responsible for their content, but we only link to things we’d genuinely recommend.

Data Collection

We do not scrape, sell or share your data. We collect only what is necessary to process your order and communicate with you. If you have questions about how we handle your data, just send us an email.

Part 2 – Orders, Payments & Products

Placing an Order

When you place an order through our website, you are making an offer to purchase. We confirm acceptance when we process your payment and send a confirmation. We reserve the right to decline an order if something is wrong — for example if a part turns out to be unavailable or if there is a pricing error. In that case we will always reach out to you directly.

Pricing

All prices are in euros and include Dutch VAT unless stated otherwise. Shipping costs are shown separately at checkout. We reserve the right to adjust prices, but any order already confirmed will be honoured at the price you paid.

Payment

Payment is required at the time of ordering. We ask that you provide accurate billing information. If a payment cannot be processed, we will contact you to resolve it before cancelling your order.

Returns and Refunds

Please refer to our separate Returns & Refunds Policy for full details. In short: we want you to be happy with what you receive, and if something is not right, we will work with you to find a solution.

Shipping

Please refer to our separate Shipping Policy for delivery times, costs and international shipping information.

Liability

We are a small, specialist business and we stand behind what we sell. However, our liability is limited to the value of the product or service purchased. We are not responsible for indirect or consequential losses resulting from a delayed or incorrect delivery.

Part 3 – Repair & Workshop Terms

What We Work On

Carjoy specialises exclusively in Matra automobiles. We have been doing this for decades and we know these cars inside out. That said, we want to be honest: these are vehicles that are often 40 or more years old. Working on them requires experience, patience and realistic expectations from both sides.

The Nature of Classic Car Repairs

Classic cars are not like modern vehicles. Solving one problem can sometimes reveal another that was previously hidden. This is not a failure of craftsmanship. it is simply the reality of working with aging machinery. We will always communicate clearly with you about what we find and what we recommend.

Our repairs are aimed at resolving the specific issue agreed upon. Unless explicitly discussed and included in the invoice, other systems or components are not covered by that repair.

Warranty on Our Work

We stand behind the work we do and the parts we supply. Warranty applies to the specific repair carried out and the parts replaced, as stated on your invoice.

Warranty is valid when:

  • The issue can be directly and demonstrably linked to our work
  • The vehicle has not been worked on by another garage without our prior knowledge
  • You contact us as soon as the issue appears

We ask that you come to us first if something does not feel right after a repair. We would much rather resolve it together than find out a third party has already been involved, as this complicates things for everyone.

Foreign Customers

We work with customers from across Europe and beyond, and we genuinely value that trust. If you are based outside the Netherlands, please be aware that:

  • Warranty work is carried out at our workshop in Leerdam
  • Repairs done by other garages abroad cannot be reimbursed by us
  • Transport, customs and any other costs involved in returning a vehicle or part are at the customer’s expense

If a part we supplied has a demonstrable defect, we will work with you to find a fair solution — whether that means sending a replacement part or another arrangement we agree on together.

A Practical Example: The Rebuilt Engine Block

To make this concrete, here is a situation we see regularly. When a customer orders a rebuilt “bare” engine block, here is what that typically includes:

  • A fully rebuilt bottom end with rotating components
  • A rebuilt cylinder head
  • New timing components
  • A rebuilt oil pump
  • Correctly adjusted valve clearances

What is not included in a bare engine rebuild: the starter motor, alternator, carburettor(s), ignition system, sensors, wiring loom, cooling system, intake and exhaust. These are transferred from the old engine.

This means the performance of the rebuilt engine still depends heavily on those existing components. If the carburation, ignition or cooling is not functioning well, that can cause issues — even with a freshly rebuilt engine. A rebuilt block fixes internal mechanical wear. It does not automatically fix everything else.

We use this example because it applies equally to many other repairs. Always ask us upfront what is and is not included, and we will tell you honestly.

After Your Repair — What We Ask of You

After a major repair, there are sometimes follow-up actions required. These are normal and expected with classic cars, not signs that something went wrong. For example:

  • Changing the oil after a short running-in period
  • Retightening cylinder head bolts after the first heat cycles
  • Tightening hose clamps after the cooling system has expanded and settled
  • Tightening of the handbrake cable after running in new pads/discs

These actions will always be mentioned clearly on your invoice or discussed with you at collection. Please read the invoice carefully and follow any agreed steps — skipping them can affect the result of the work and may impact warranty.

Storage and Operating Conditions

Classic cars are more sensitive to their environment than modern vehicles. Things that can cause problems even without any workshop involvement:

  • Storage in damp or poorly ventilated spaces — this affects brakes, rubber seals and electrical systems
  • Long periods of inactivity — carburettors, fuel systems and brakes are particularly vulnerable
  • Modern pump fuels containing ethanol — these can degrade rubber components in fuel systems and carburettors over time

Regular use, proper storage and using suitable fuel make a significant difference to the reliability and lifespan of your Matra. If you are unsure what fuel or storage setup is best for your car, just ask us.

Communication

We believe that most problems can be avoided with good communication upfront. Before any major repair, we will discuss with you what is included, what is not, and what the realistic costs and outcomes are. Any changes to agreed work will be discussed before we proceed. we won’t surprise you with unexpected costs.

Any additional agreements, exceptions or warranty arrangements are only valid if confirmed in writing.

Governing Law

All agreements are governed by Dutch law. We always prefer to resolve any disagreement through direct conversation. If that is not possible, disputes will be submitted to the competent court in the Netherlands.
